News first appeared about a new smartphone device from Samsung last week after information was spotted buried inside the Korean company’s own Android app made for the forthcoming IFA conference. And now the confirmation is here.

In a post late Monday on the company’s official global blog, not one but three new smartphones were announced – the Wave 3, the Wave M and the Wave Y.

All three devices will run on the company’s bada 2.0 platform, which "brings together a wide variety of new capabilities including multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, voice recognition and Near Field Co ... Read more »

Exactly a month ago, Facebook launched a scheme that offered payments to bug hunters who reported flaws in the site’s security system.

On Monday, the social networking giant announced that in the space of just three weeks the bug bounty program has paid out over $40,000 to people who’ve helped identify problems, with one particular bug spotter pocketing over $7,000 for reporting six different issues. Samsung bumps up the Galaxy S II with an LTE and overall-improved version.

Samsung and Apple have something of a history. The two have been direct mobile competitors, and Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone and tablet lineup has arguably been the most capable rival to Apple’s iOS ecosystem. We’ve recently seen their battle taken to the legal level in various sordid patent litigations—and of course, there’s the fact that Samsung has provided component parts for Apple.

So it should come as no surprise that Samsung’s latest Galaxy S handset is likely to go head-to-head with the long-awaited iPhone 5. And while the iPhone has more fervent fanboys on its side, Samsung is trying to outfit the latest Galaxy S with something to steal a little of that attention. At the IFA Berlin trade show, the company announced that in addition to the Galaxy S II, it will introduce the Galaxy S II LTE. In addition ... Read more »

Rockstar Games releases two new screenshots for its upcoming third-person shooter, Max Payne 3, though the game continues to lack an official release date.

Rockstar Games released a couple of new screens today for Max Payne 3, which you can check out above and below. The images don’t bring any great revelations about the game, but they do demonstrate just how beautiful games can look with Rockstar’s RAGE engine.

Max Payne 3 picks up roughly a decade after the events of the previous game. The titular modern-day gunslinger has left his job as a New York City cop and gone off to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where he’s landed himself in some trouble. He’s a private security guy now, working for a wealthy local family, when he suddenly finds himself double-crossed and on the run. You can bet that Max’s trusty guns will be fired at least a few times in his search for th ... Read more »

Polish developer Flying Wild Hog confirms a September 13 release date and system requirements for its upcoming dark sci-fi FPS for PCs, Hard Reset.

You’ve got to hand it to Flying Wild Hog, the Polish developer behind Hard Reset. No one had ever heard of the upcoming first-person shooter for PC platforms until mid-July 2011, when a trailer and the first details emerged on what was described as a "dark sci-fi FPS” in the vein of works like Blade Runner. A summer game reveal isn’t an unusual thing, but the release plan was unusual, with a September 2011 window targeted.

Flying Wild Hog has now narrowed down the window to a single day — September 13 — which means that Hard Reset will have gone from initial reveal to release in the space of two months. Such timetables aren’t unusual in this increasingly mobile gaming-oriented envi ... Read more »

Multiple reports have suddenly hit, reinforcing that there is a future for the iTV at Apple.

In the wake of Steve Jobs’ resignation, rumors that Apple is planning to produce a branded television have begun to circulate.

This particular Apple TV would be an actual screen television set, not the Apple TV set-top box for streaming content that’s currently on the market. It would appear that there are various pieces to an Apple TV puzzle that are beginning to line up, and this entire product might be more than a fanboy’s pipe dream. It’s loosely being referred to as "iTV,” and there are more than a few reasons why this rumor won’t die.

Nokia's developer network has been compromised, with members' personal information falling into attackers' hands.

Mobile giant Nokia has acknowledged a database used by its online developer community had been hacked, with a significant number of developer forum members’ personal information potentially falling into attackers’ hands. The attack used SQL injection—basically, embedding SQL commands in a form field or another entry point that get executed inappropriately by the database. According to Nokia, personal information like birthdates, email addresses, URLs, and instant messaging handles may have been compromised. However, the company says no passwords or credit card details were compromised, and no other Nokia accounts members may have outside the developer forums would have been effected.

Nokia has taken its developer community offline as a ... Read more »

On August 24, a Russian Soyuz rocket failed at its third stage. It was unmanned but the unexpected disaster has checked further scheduled launches from Kazakhstan. Thanks to the multilateral connectivity of American, Russian, and European space programs this set back could leave the ISS unmanned by year’s end.

At the moment there are three astronauts up at the ISS and their robot pal (that would be Mr. Robonaut 2, not Bender). If tests on the Soyuz boosters propelling manned rockets are to go ahead, the resulting delays could force NASA to cancel further missions. A major bummer, since the ISS was only completed in may this year.

This unprecedented setback is now being construed as a new low for what passes as a global space program. Since the Russians are more fixated on commercializing low orbit and NASA is hampered by a lack of finances, mankind’s destiny in the stars ... Read more »
