NEC has announced that later this month it will be launching a new LED backlit desktop computer monitor it’s cheap and environmentally conscious. The display is called the AccuSync AS192WM and has a 19-inch screen. The display is aimed at small to medium businesses looking for a green monitor on a budget.

NEC promises that the LED backlit display consumes 33% less power and is 20% lighter than a comparably sized CCFL backlit monitor. The display also includes a special ECO Mode carbon footprint meter tool. The display has a native resolution of 1440 x 900.

For a long time if you wanted to protect the screen of your iPad from scratches and drops, you had to use a case or a sticky adhesive film. The problem with those adhesive films is that they rarely stick well leaving you with bubbles to look at. Siedio has unveiled a new screen protector that works for the third and fourth generation iPad as well as the iPad 2.

The screen protector promises to protect the screen from scratches and from cracks sustained from a drop. Rather than being a sticky film, the VITREO is a sheet of tempered glass that fits over the entire surface of your iPad. The glass has a hardness rating of 9H and sticks to the iPad using an included silicone adhesive.

Even though Apple has only just launched its new iPad Mini, the smaller tablet is already in high demand and stocks are struggling to meet demand. However sources close to the supplier AU Optronics, who currently provides the 1024 x 768 panels for the new iPad mini, say that production is already gearing up to create an iPad Mini retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536.

The current iPad Mini has the same resolution as the original larger iPad tablet, but the iPad Mini’s smaller 7 inch screen size has helped enhance the clarity of the display when compared to the original iPad and its helped the new iPad Mini support all application designed for the iPad in the Apple App Store.

After announcing the delay of the mass production of their flexible AMOLED screens, Samsung has released a new video providing a quick glimpse into their concepts and ideas for uses using the new flexible and transparent displays.



The video after the break shows the new screens being used in everything from watches to transparent touchscreens within the workplace.

With the technology even capable of replacing the tablets of today in the near future.

Blendtec has been at is again this week blending expensive electronic gadgets for the sake of science, well entertainment at least.



This time Blentec has taken a new Apple iPad Mini, Google Nexus 7 tablet and a Kindle Fire tablet, folded them in half and set the blenders on dice.

As you can imagine the video isn’t for the fainthearted, as the poor electronic tablets receive a deadly battering before they even make it into the blenders for testing.

Earlier today we heard that the new Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone will be available from AT&T, this Friday the 9th of November, the device will retail for $99.99 when you sign up to a new two year contract with AT&T.

AT&T will also be offering the Nokia Lumia 920 contract free, which means if you have an existing contract, you can buy the device, although the contract free pricing is quite a bit more at $449.99.

The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with Windows Phone 8 and features a 4.5 inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, processing is provided by a dual core Snapdragon S4 processor.

Other specifications on the Nokia Lumia 920 include an 8.7 megapixel rear facing camera with a Carl Zeiss Lens and there is also a front facing 1.2 megapixel camera for video chat.

Microsoft recently launched their new Windows 8 App store along with the launch of Windows 8, and now it would appear that there around 13,000 apps in the Windows 8 App store.

According to a recent report from Win App Update, Microsoft has added roughly 3,000 apps to the Windows 8 app store in the last 8 days and are on target to hits 20,000 apps by the end of November.

It looks like Microsoft is on target to add around 10,000 apps to the Windows 8 app store per month, if it continues at the same rate, which would mean that there would be around 30,000 apps available by the end of the year.

Lenovo has this week released new details about the shipping dates for its new Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet 2, confirming that it will be arriving on November 16th for $649 on their website.

To re-cap the Lenovo ThinkPad 2 was expected to launch the same day as Windows 8, but after a slight delay the ThinkPad Tablet 2 is now ready and preparing for launch.

The ThinkPad Tablet 2 is equipped with a 10 inch multitouch screen sporting a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, powered by a Atom Clover Trail processor and comes running Microsoft’s new Windows 8 operating system, offering 10 hours of battery life.

LaCie has today launched updated versions of its storage solution the LaCie Cloudbox, which has been re-designed to allow families easy access to media from multiple devices.

The Lacie Cloudbox when it first launched was available with 100 GB of storage both locally and within the cloud. However the newly updated versions of the Lacie storage are no longer supplied with cloud storage, but instead have increased local storage. Watch the video after the jump to learn more.

The storage now available within the Lacie Cloubox includes a 1, 2 or 3TB capacity NAS, and works as a personal cloud server. However it doesn’t come with any RAID capability. Lacie explains:

Some of our readers will remember the LG Viper 4G LTE that launched on Sprint back in April, the handset originally came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, if you own one, there is some good news as Sprint is releasing the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the LG Viper.

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the LG Viper is being rolled out it batches and should be available for all users within the next two weeks, there are no details on what devices will get it first.

Smartphones and tablets have become incredibly popular over the last few years, according to research firm Gartner, there will be a total of 821 million smart devices sold by the end of 2012.

This is set to increase significantly, with projections of around 1.2 billion smart devices in 2013, where tablets and smartphones are set to get even more popular, and tablet sales are set to grow substantially next year.

Both Apple and Google’s Android are the top players in the smart devices at the moment, with Apple’s iPhone, and a number of Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S III being the top players at the moment.

It will be interesting to see how things develop over the next few years, with devices like Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, as well as Apple’s iPad range becoming even more popular.

Apple and Samsung are in the middle of a number of court cases around the world, and now it would appear that Apple wants to add some new devices ti its lawsuits against Samsung.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple is accusing Samsung of infringing some of their patents with the Galaxy Note 10.1, and it has also said that Samsung’s implementation of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean infringes on Apple’s patents.

Andrew Liao, an Apple attorney, told Grewal today that the Galaxy Nexus is the only phone with Jelly Bean that Apple seeks to add to the patent complaint. Liao also said Apple wants to add 17 devices that could use a stylus even though the products don’t ship with a stylus.

Microsoft’s new range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones will land on US mobile carrier AT&T this Friday the 9th of November, and all devices will be available to pre-order from AT&T from today.

The new Windows Phone 8 devices which are headed to AT&T on Friday include the HTC Windows Phone 8 X which will be available for $99.99 for the 8GB model and $199.99 for the 16GB model when you take out a new two year contract with AT&T.

Nokia’s new Windows Phone 8 devices will also be available on Friday, the Nokia Lumia 820 will retail for $49.99 when you take out a new two year contract with the carrier and the Nokia Lumia 920 will retail for $99.99, this is also with a new two year contract.

Last week Apple launched their new updated iPad 4 along with their new smaller iPad Mini, the device had been available to pre-order from the 26th of October, although it sold out quickly and the shipping time changed to 2 weeks.

It looks like Apple has now caught up with the demand for the new iPad 4, as they are now listing the device as ‘in stock’ on their website, which means you will not have to wait a couple of weeks to get one.

Apple’s iPad Mini is still showing a shipping time of two weeks, we suspect it may take them a little longer to catch up on the demand for the iPad Mini, you can find out more details about both devices over at Apple.

Motorola, which is now owned by Google, launched the Atrix HD smartphone back in July, and now Motorola has announced a new version of the smartphone, which is designed specifically for developers, the Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition.

The Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition shares the same specifications as the original device, although it comes with an unlocked bootloader, which will allow developers to create custom ROMs on the device.

Microsoft recently launched Windows 8, and their first tablet, the Microsoft Surface, we already know that Microsoft has plans to produce more hardware under their Surface brand, as this was confirmed by the company’s CEO, Steve Ballmer.

Now according to a recent report by the Verge, one of these new devices under the Surface brand, will be a smaller 7 inch Surface tablet, which is designed for gaming, and may come with the name of the Xbox Surface.

The Xbox Surface tablet is expected to feature an ARM based processor, and it isn;t expected to run a full version of Windows, instead it will run a custom Windows kernel with the focus on gaming, but with other features like messaging and more.

We have been hearing more and more about the new HTC Droid DNA over the last week, earlier today we saw a leaked press shit of the Droid DNA, and now it would appear we may have a possible launch date.

HTC and Verizon have sent out press invites for the 13th of November, and the event will take place in New York at 11AM EST, and whilst they have not said what will be announced we suspect it will be the new HTC Droid DNA.

The HTC Droid DNA is Verizon’s version of the recently announced HTC J Butterfly, and the Verizon version is expected to feature the same specifications as the original, which include 5 inch HD Super LCD 3 display with a 1080p resolution and 440 ppi, the device is powered by a quad core  1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 pro processor, and it will feature 2GB of RAM.

Motorola has released a new software update for their Photon Q smartphone, unfortunately the update is not Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but a software update that brings a number of bug fixes and improvements to the device, and it remains on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the moment.

The Motorola Photon Q features a slide out QWERTY keyboard, processing is provided by a dual core 1.5GHz processor and it comes with a 4.3 inch touchscreen display.

It would appear that Microsoft has plans for a new ‘Cloud TV’ platform, the details have been revealed in a Microsoft job listing, with the job listing mentioning a Cloud TV Team at Microsoft.

The job listing also says that applicants will get in on the ground floor of an ambitious new project, obviously Microsoft has yet to announce anything about a new Cloud TV platform.

It looks like HTC are getting ready to launch their new HTC Windows Phone 8X in an other country, as according to the guys over at Mobile Syrup, the HTC 8X will land in Canada on the 15th of November.

New game design studio Red Barrels has released more details regarding its new Outlast first-person-shooter horror title they are currently developing, which is powered by the Unreal Games Engine.

Outlast will be launching on Steam next summer, but the studio released a trailer for the new game on Halloween. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Outlast project and see it in action.

Microsoft recently launched their new Surface Tablet, the device comes with Windows RT and features 32GB of built in disk space, and Microsoft advertises the device as coming with 32GB of storage.

It looks like LG and Cricket Wireless are about to launch a new smartphone, the LG Optimus Regard, which according to Cricketusers is Cricket’s first 4G LTE smartphone.
