Smart Modular Technologies has unveiled a new addition to their range of solid state drives this week with the launch of their new Smart Optimus SSD. The new Optimus SSD range is available in 200GB, 400GB, 800GB, and 1.6TB storage capacities and features read/write speeds of 100K/50K random IOPS and 500/500MB/s sustained transfer rates. Together with support for wide-port SAS capability, providing up to 1GB/s sustained read performance.

"A product that combines enhanced endurance, high capacity, and high performance at a good value would cause a dramatic shift in how storage is deployed, and it would help to drive the adoption of SSDs in the enterprise,”

The Smart Optimus is currently has the largest capacity in the market and using its  Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 6Gb/s interface providing speeds of 1GB/s and write speeds of 500MB/s, also makes the Smart Optimus one of the fastest drives on the market too.

Unfortunately no details on costs have been released as yet by Smart.
