Samsung Smart TV Security Hole Discovered Offering Root Admin And Remote Access (video)
Owners of Samsung
Smart TVs might be interested to learn that a Threat Post, security
researcher Luigi Auriemma has discovered a vulnerability within some
Samsung Smart TVs that could allow remotely access the Samsung TV.
As well as remotely access the Samsung TV hackers might also be able
to access files located on the TVs USB flash drive connected to the TV,
reconfigure the TV’s remote control, and even gain root access and load
up malicious software directly into the Smart TV system. Watch the video after the jump to find out more.
"In this video we demonstrate one
of our 0-day vulnerabilities affecting Smart TV, in this case a Samsung
TV LED 3D. Smart TV can be used to browse the internet, use social
networks, purchase movies and do many other things. This demo shows how a
vulnerability for such devices can be used to retrieve sensitive
information, monitor and root the device itself remotely.”
To protect yourself against attacks Auriemma’s best advice is to
disable the smart TV’s online functionality, which unfortunately makes
the reason for having a Smart TV a little redundant. Samsung has yet to
issue a statement about the finding, but as always we will keep you
updated.
