Household thermostats
aren’t exactly the coolest gadget around, in fact they are pretty
boring, one company has decided to change that with the launch of Nest, a
thermostat that can learn your habits.
The Nest is the work
of Nest Labs and Tony Fadell, who was the former chief architect at
Apple, and whilst at Apple he lead the development of the iPod and the
iPhone, he left Apple a couple of years ago to start up Nest Labs.
As you can see from the photo, there are no buttons on the Nest
thermostat, and it displays the current temperature, and the color
changes depending on the temperature setting.
It features a touchscreen interface, and can actually learn from you
habits, after a couple of weeks of use the Nest will set the heating to
your patterns over the last few weeks.
It can be connected to your computer by WiFi or smartphone, and it
will tell you how much you are spending per month to heat your home, and
it will also tell you how much energy you are saving.
The nest will retail for $249 and it will go on sale in the US next month, you can find out more information over at Nest Labs. |
