New smartphones are being fitted with ever faster processors to help
them power through the latest applications, but the flip side to using
faster processors in our devices is the added strain it puts on our
battery life.
Researchers at the University of Michigan computer science and
engineering have been looking into the problem and developed a new
subconscious mode for smartphones which could extend battery life in our
devices by as much as 54 percent.
The new subconscious mode will also work
with other WiFi-enabled mobile devices but is still just a proof of
concept at the moment. But couldn’t you do with a increasing your
battery life? I know I could.
The developers of the new subconscious mode, professor Kang Shin and
doctoral student Xinyu Zhang will be presenting their research on
Sept. 21 at the ACM International Conference on Mobile Computing and
Networking in Las Vegas.
