Texas Instruments Shows Off OMAP 5 Android 4.0 Reference Design

We recently saw a demo of a Windows 8 Tablet from Texas Instruments which is running on their OMAP 4 processor and now the company has shown off a new Android 4.0 reference design which is based on their new OMAP 5 processor.

The new reference design was shown off at this years CES, and Texas Instruments will start sampling the new OMAP 5 processors to manufacturers shortly.

According to the guys from Engadget, who got a good look at this new Android 4.0 reference device, the OMAP 5 processor features dual cores and a dual GPU architecture, plus a range of power saving enhancements over the previous procesor.

It looks like we will have to wait until the end of 2012 or the begging of 2013 to see these new OMAP 5 processors in new devices, and Texas Instruments have said that running two Crtex A-15 processors at 800MHz provides similar performance to two Coretx A9 processors at 1.5GHz.

You8 can see a video of this new Android 4.0 reference device in action over at Engadget, it certainly looks very interesting from the video, and we are looking forward to seeing the first devices with these new OMAP 5 processors.
