First unveiled back in January 2013 Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 and 800 chips have this month been awarded OpenGL ES 3 Certification, and are the first chips to be awarded with such certification.
The Adreno 300 graphics processors used in the Qualcomm
Snapdragon 600 and 800 chips will be supporting the new OpenGL ES 3
technology , and have been designed to provide a host of new features
for developers and gamers alike.
OpenGL ES is a royalty free API based
on OpenGL, and is commonly used by smaller developers who are designing
2D/3D applications for small, portable devices. OpenGL ES 3.0 allows
developers to add several optional features which will improve the
performance and quality of smartphone games.
OpenGL ES 3.0 was first unveiled back in August 2012 and is backwards
compatible with OpenGL ES 2.0, enabling applications to incrementally
add new visual features to applications. For more information on the
new OpenGL ES 3.0 Certification jump over to the Qualcomm blog website for details.
