Russian authorities are not very fond of fake Apple products. That’s
why they used a bulldozer to crush a mountain of authentic looking
iPhone 4 and 4S handsets after picking up a Chinese man who had
attempted to smuggle the handsets into the country.
The Chinese man claimed that the handsets were real, but he lacked the
necessary documentation to prove their authenticity. Totalling 127
units, these allegedly fake devices would cost about $36,500 on the
Russian market. The man was fined a just $65, which seems strange. That
fine won’t deter anyone from selling fake products.
I hope it doesn’t turn out that these phones were real after all of this.

Apple recently launched the new iPad

March would be the one year anniversary of the launch of the iPad 3, and Apple normally releases their new iPad in March, although we saw the slightly updated iPad 4 in October.
Our checks at CES indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the
second-generation iPad mini this March. The iPad 5 is expected to be
lighter and thinner than the iPad 4 that was released in October, while
the form factor of the iPad mini should be similar to the first
generation iPad mini that debuted in October.
With regards to the iPad Mini, March would seem a little early as the

Samsung has produced a number of components for Apple’s iPhone and iPad in the past, although we have been hearing recently that Samsung will be switching to new suppliers for some components.
According to a recent report by the Commercial Times, Apple is switching productions of its A6X processors to TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
Apple’s A6x processor is used in the current iPhone 5 and the iPad 4, the processor has previously been made by Samsung for Apple, but considering the legal disputes between the two companies Apple are obviously looking to switch production of as many components as they can away from Samsung.

Rumors have been swirling that Apple
and its manufacturing partner Foxconn have been looking to bring
production for some Apple products to the United States. Currently,
Foxconn produces most of the products for Apple in China with some items
produced in South America. It remains unclear where exactly Foxconn
might set up shop in the United States.
However, the rumor points to Fremont, California as a possible location for the Foxconn facility. According to the rumor, the Apple product will be constructed in the US isn’t the Mac Pro the earlier rumors pointed to, but rather the cheaper Mac mini.
Apple expects sales of the Mac mini to increase significantly to 1.8
million units in 2013. That would be a 30% increase from the number sold
in 2012. Building the Mac mini in the
