If you’re a fan of the EA and Visceral Games franchise Dead Space, you will be glad to hear that a new downloadable demo is coming next month. EA announced this week that the demo for Dead Space 3 will be available on January 22.

Xbox 360 gamers will be able to get the demo a week earlier than that date by signing up at the official Dead Space website. If you’re unfamiliar with Dead Space, this is an action, science fiction, horror video game that offers cooperative game play.

Players will fill the space boots of hero Isaac Clarke and his co-op companion Sergeant John Carver. The duo are on the planet of Tau Volantis, which is covered in ice and filled with Necromorphs. The full game will launch in North America on February 5 for the PS3, Xbox, and PC.

We all like to get games for dirt cheap if possible and you can’t beat free right? Tomb Raider: Underworld has been made available as a free-to-play game in a browser, thanks to Square Enix’s Core Online.

There is a catch. The real "price”? Well, you will have to suffer through an advertisement every 20 minutes. I can live with that I guess. Here is one big plus: No need to worry about a bad Internet connection, because Core Online will pre-load the game onto your system instead of streaming it.

These ads will show up three times an hour, and you can remove those ads by paying a fee, or just get through the game. You can pay a larger sum initially so that the entire gaming experience will be ad-free, or you can pay a certain amount of money for some ad-free game time, and once that time is up, ads will begin to show again. ... Square Enix have released a new trailer for their upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII game, which takes place several years after Final Fantasy XIII-2, in a completely new setting.

Within the game players need to manage time effectively as the world is set to end in 13 days, and every action a player performs uses up precious time.

As reported back in October by Square Enix, the latest Lightning Returns game will be the final instalment in the XIII series and promises closure to players of the previous two instalments.

"Following the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Gran Pulse and Valhalla have merged due to the chaos released after Etro’s death. The result is Novus Partus, a series of islands floating in the ... Read more »

Elite: Dangerous currently over on Kickstarter trying to raise £1.25 million to develop their new installment of a long series of epic space games, starting with "Elite” one of the most successful games of the 1980s, which I have found memories playing around my friends house a BBC Micro computer.

The latest instalment definitely has enhanced graphics compared to the 1908s version, and also builds on the same gameplay style as the original. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Elite: Dangerous project and see it in action.

The UK Kickstarter campaign works a little different to the US Kickstarter projects, and requires you enter your credit card details to pledge, but the game devel ... Read more »

Your favorite game isn’t missing because I don’t think its great, more likely it just didn’t edit together well with the rest or had to go to keep it under 2 minutes. So it turns out apart from just giant robots fighting giant sea monsters, Stringer Bell from The Wire and Jax from Sons of Anarchy, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim will also feature GlaDOS of Portal fame. Not only will actress Ellen McLain be voicing an AI in the  film, but the same filter and effects are to be applied, making her GlaDOS in all but name.

Apparently del Toro had to call Valve chief Gabe Newell himself to secure Ellen McLain’s participation, with some help from his  daughter. "I’m a big fan of Valve,” Guillermo del Toro said in an Escapist interview. "Portal and Left 4 Dead have been instrumental family experiences at my house.”

Konami’s rabidly anticipated tactical espionage slice’em up will be playable in demo form in January on Xbox and PSN. The title is, at Hideo Kojima’s request, jointly developed by Kojima Productions, who are handling narrative and cinematic direction and Platinum Games, taking over gameplay duties.

The demo is already available in Japan, but is region-locked, preventing even players with a Japanese PSN account from playing it. The demo has so far been included with Zone of the Enders HD collection, though it’s unclear whether that’s the reason for the strict region lock on the demo. At the very least it remains a valid alternative for players who can’t wait until January.
