Samsung’s new Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the Samsung Ativ S is now
available to pre-order in the UK, the SIM free version of the Ativ S
will retail for £442.80 including taxes and it will be available around
the end of October. The Samsung Ativ S comes with Windows Phone 8 and it is powered by a dual core 1.5GHz processor and it features a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with a HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The
Samsung Ativ S come with 16GB of built in storage, and it also features
a microSD card slot that can take up to 32GB cards, there is also a
rear 8 megapixel camera for photos and video, which features auto-focus and an LED flash, and a front facing 1.9 megapixel camera for video chat. T&T has announced that two of its devices are getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, the Pantech Element, which is a tablet and the Pantech Burst smartphone.
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update should now be available for
both devices, and it brings a range of new features to the Element
tablet and the Burst smartphone.
Android 4.0 makes your devices easier to use and more powerful
than ever. The many new features of this update include a new browser
with improved page loading, tabbed browsing, offline reading and desktop
mode. The new lock screen
provides shortcuts to the camera, text messaging, phone dialer and home
screen. You can also create home screen folders just by dragging one
app icon onto another, and swipe away notifications bar.
With this update, Pantech Element customers will have resizable
widgets and an updated Setup Wizard

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has demoed a new smartphone which features a
rather interesting user interface, the Grip UI, which works when you
touch the side of the smartphone.
On either side of the device there are pressure sensors, and a custom
user interface which responds to the pressure on these sensors placed
on the side of the device, have a look at the brief video of it in
action below.
At the moment the handset is just a concept, but it could be
developed to work with complex gestures as well as simple ones, whether
or not it will make it into production remains to be seen.

After going up for pre-order in the UK during August, UK readers who have been patiently waiting for the Acer CloudMobile
smartphone to arrive in the UK. Will be pleased to learn that from

Some of our readers will remember the Sony Xperia Sola which was
announced a while back, Sony have yet to give an exact launch date for
the device, although it looks like it is now available in Hong Kong for
about $387.
The Sony Xperia Sola features a 3.7 inch Reality Display with Sony’s
Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and the handset is powered by Android 2.3
Gingerbread,with an ICS update promised for the summer.
