By ‘Mars pics’ is meant the real deal–photos taken from the surface of Mars. Based on what has popped up online, no evidence of long dead civilizations were caught, but the scenic tranquility of the red planet is still quite a feast for the eyes.  There are lots of rocks too. As for the principal photographer, it’s the Martian rover called Opportunity. After almost eight years of being in-planet it has amassed quite an incredible library of pics. No kidding. The really cool part is a NASA developer has created an iPhone/Android app for viewing the wealth of media.

Just to clarify, seen above is a computerized rendition of Opportunity. Don’t mistake it for the kind of pics that the rover is transmitting from its Martian odyssey.

Mark Powell over at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory did the grunt work. Those interested can enjoy the app for ... Read more »

After so many years, Ridley Scott finally returns to the genre that established his name as a cutting edge director. ‘Prometheus’ follows a team of scientists on a dangerous mission whose outcome they barely survive. That has to suffice for now, but for a giant spoiler, just do some smart googling. Word on the street is ‘Prometheus’ is an un-credited prequel to the Alien saga, taking place long before the events of the first Alien movie transpired. Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here is the trailer whose score is oddly reminiscent of ‘Inception,’ full of booming noises and and shouting.

Here it is:

If all goes well in the box office and among the fandom ranks, ‘Prometheus’ should be another career peak for the indefa ... Read more »

Researchers at the Keio University in Japan have developed a telexistence robot, called Telesar V, which is designed

to duplicate all your movements and senses, and it is designed to let you be in two places at once.

"What you can do with this telexistence robot is, you can see the things you usually see, even at a remote location. If

you’re a physician, for example, to examine a patient, you need to extend your hands. With this system, you have hands

that you can move just like your own. You can also hear what’s going on around you. Those are the first things we’ve

achieved with this system. And now, as a feature of TELESAR V, we’ve added sensors that communicate what the robot’s

fingers are touching, and a system to feed the touch sensation back to the operator. This technology makes it possible

to operate the robot as your av ... Read more »
