Mozilla only released Firefox 6 last month, and now they have released another new version, Firefox 7 for Windows, Mac and Linux, and it comes with a range of performance improvements over the previous version.

According to Mozilla Firefox 7 is designed to significantly reduce the memory used and also make browsing faster, and from what we have seen so far, although we have only tested it briefly it does seem faster than Firefox 6.

You can find out more information about the latest version of Firefox for Mac, Windows and Linux over at the Mozilla Blog.

Rimac have this week unveiled their new electric supercar in the form of  Concept_One which is equipped with 1088 hp, 3,800 Nm of torque, and can cover 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h) and a 370 mile range (600 km).

The Rimac Concept_One has been designed by 23 year old Croatian automotive designer Mate Rimac and the first cars are expected to arrive in showrooms during 2013. But there will be only 88 of the Rimac Concept_One cars made so if your pockets are deep enough don’t delay. Watch the video after the jump explaining the electric technology that is inside this Rimac Concept_One supercar.

Rimac explains the technology behind their new Concept_One supercar:

The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite that has been befuddling NASA scientists with its unpredictable reentry path has finally fallen back to Earth. We... just don't know where yet exactly. But you're safe to look up now.

According to NASA, the satellite penetrated the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean between 11:23 p.m. and 1:09 a.m. last night, making it likely that it's floating out in open water somewhere. As expected, most of the 20-year-old, 12,500 pound satellite probably burned up upon reentry. It's a wonderful the send off, too. The UARS was launched in September 1991 as part of a mission with the just-decommissioned Space Shuttle Discovery. It measured ozone and chemical levels in our atmosphere until 2005, when the Bush administration pulled the plug on it.

And now it's home. It must have been quite the light show. [NASA vi ... Read more »

NASA has confirmed that the decommissioned UARS weather satellite re-entered the Earth's atmosphere somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. There are no reports of it landing on anyone.

The decommissioned UARS weather satellite has landed – albeit in a number of pieces.

Speaking to BBC radio at 4am ET, NASA spokesman Steve Cole said the satellite had re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere "somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.” The precise location is not yet known.

NASA posted a message on its Twitter feed at 3.30am ET saying: "We can now confirm that #UARS is down! Debris fell to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23, and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24.”

There had been reports of parts of it landing in Okotoks, a town south of Calgary in western Canada, but these are unconfirmed.

Up to now there are no reports of it landing on anyone. That’s good news. Statisticians had sa ... Read more »

Handroid? That’s the problem with marketing these days, it’s so contrived. Really, Handroid? Awful. But the machine itself—woah! No wonder Arnie down south is rocking his best me gusta face at the sight of it. Kidding! That’s a famous scene from T2. Seriously, the Handroid itself has an eerie similarity to the robot prostheses from the classic movie.

Actually the Handroid from ITK, a tech firm that specializes in robotic tools, is more an attachment than a prostheses. This means that the $6,500 Handroid they’re currently hyping is meant for job sites like construction or engineering. Not sure if it’s modular enough to have attachments, like laser fingers or a rocket launcher. We’ll stop speculating now.

The Handroid is a remote controlled (via glove) limb that can work like a precision tool and accomplish challenging tasks. Can it replace a real hand? ITK are working hard at ... Read more »

According to a Dr. James Law, Astroboy iCub should carry the Olympic torch in 2012. Not all the way, but participate in the process. Of course all he really did was submit the iCub’s candidacy. There’s no way of telling if a robot can participate in such a high profile event.

Oh yes, iCub? It’s a metallic toddler designed to learn from its environment the way a baby does. To be honest, it scares us. it’s those eyes. That face. Chucky???

Dr. Law (cool name) is a computer science professor over at Aberystwyrth and he thinks making a robot participate in the torch ceremony honors a certain Alan Turing. In doing so, it should serve to inspire generations of nerds scientists and engineers to come. Wait, Alan Turing? Sound familiar?

He’s the WW2 codebreaker and computer science whiz who created the algorithms from which programming language is based. He’s been featured before ... Read more »

Researchers at the Technical University of Denmark have developed a brain scanner which uses a smartphone, the portable EEG system is made up of a low cost brain monitor which is placed on your head and a smartphone app.

The video below shows the smartphone brain scanner in action, which uses a low cost EEG headset with a wireless connection and a Nokia N900 smartphone.

We demonstrate a fully functional smartphone brain scanner consisting of a low-cost 14-channel EEG headset with a wireless connection to a smartphone (Nokia N900), enabling minimally invasive EEG monitoring in naturalistic settings. The smartphone provides a touch-based interface with real-time brain state decoding and 3D reconstruction.

You can find out more information about this innovative brain scanner over at Milab.

University of Michigan researchers have come up with a new "subconscious" mode that sips power while keeping Wi-Fi active - while other research shows that computing doubles in power efficiency every 18 months.

These days, almost every smartphone user has felt the pain of their battery giving up the ghost — often at the worst possible moment. Sure, maybe you didn’t have to play Angry Birds or Words with Friends when the battery was at an 89 percent charge, but now that it’s at 1 percent (with no USB or wall power in sight), you’re desperate to receive that critical text or email message.

We’ve all been there.

New research from researchers at the University of Michigan and Stanford University may help stave off these battery woes — at least, eventually. University of Michigan researchers have developed a new "sub ... Read more »

The paternal Beatty and his daughters (yes, daughters!) used a bunch of Arduinos and lots of  parts to assemble this mobile machine. It weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 pounds and puts DARPA’s own robotic ventures to shame. So as not to arouse the suspicion of authorities, let it be writ that the Mechatron is totally harmless. Sort of. That’s because it only packs an electric pellet gun. Now, if it fired rockets—you wouldn’t want to mess with the Beatty family if that were the case.

What’s also incredible is the mobility of the Mechatron. It can go places and since it’s a small machine, it’s got a little stealth to it, too. If you’ ... Read more »
