Researchers at the Keio University in Japan have developed a new 3D
display that displays floating 3D characters that can be interacted with
and touched in mid air.
The RePro3D display is made up of a glasses 3D display, a
mechanically controlled model environment and a tactile interface, have a
look at the video of it in action below.
"We use retro-reflective projection technology,
using materials with special retro-reflective characteristics. This
kind of material reflects light that enters back at the same angle it
entered. Using this technology enables a display to show images at a
different place from the light source.”

Apparently there’s this condition called Electromagnetic
Hypersensitivity (or EHS) that’s ruining a lot of lives. How? It makes
its victims so paranoid around cellular devices and WiFi
networks—believing proximity to such tech irradiates them—that they
decide to opt out of society. Thus, WiFi refugees have come into
existence. The almost too-unbelievable part is groups of them have been
flocking to a far away town for their protection.
The place is Green Bank, West Virginia where oddly enough humongous
radio telescopes ar ein operation. It has become a haven for EHS
sufferers and other WiFi refugees because it’s a certified radio free
zone. It’s also rustic, isolated, and quite lovely.
The BBC have a great piece on some of the inhabitants who claim they
have suffered from EHS and cellular devices. The victims claim headaches
and mental t

For starters, it’s a strange place for kids to be enjoying their
solitude. But as a work of sculpture what Dietrech Wegner has created is
a marvel to behold. A study in balancing lightweight materials with
aesthetic sensibilities, the mushroom cloud tree house is an eccentric
take on a boyhood institution, not to mention a towering display of
nuclear might.
Further investigation has revealed that the artist’s message
was to pose a contradiction. We’re not going to delve into the
philosophical underpinnings here or whatever. Bottom line is it’s a nice
sculpture though we’d love to see a lengthier ladder up to its
entrance. The sculptor, of whom little is known,
has inadvertently stoked our enthusiasm for post-nuclear imaginings
along the lines of Fallout

NASA has this week unveiled plans to build the worlds largest rocket
costing an estimated costing $18 billion and a successor to the Space
Shuttle. The new rocket will be a 320-foot-tall Space Launch System
(SLS) and will be the most powerful NASA has built since the Saturn V
rockets.
Its hoped that the new rocket will take NASA missions behind the moon
and maybe even to Mars. Watch a video NASA has created to unveil its
new rocket project to the world after the jump.
NASA Space agency chief Charles Bolden explains:
"The The Space Launch System (SLS) will take American astronauts
further into space than ever before. Tomorrow’s explorers will dream of
one day walking on Mars,”
The new rocket is currently under development and will hopefully make a unmanned test flight in 2017.

For starters, it’s not found on Earth but in a far away system
orbiting a star. See, the Super-Earth is a category of rocky planet
within a ‘habitable zone’ where proximity determines whether water
deposits may or may not exist. A super-earth is also much larger than
our Earth (hence ‘super’), having heftier mass as a result. Not
surprising, since water is oh so essential to supporting life. The
picture down south? Not a Super-Earth. In case you didn’t recognize it
that’s Reach from the Halo universe before the Covenant laid waste to
it. A stand in if you will.
Even if space programs around the world are currently cash-strapped
and long term mission-less, that doesn’t mean the scientific community
are resting on their laurels. The ESO in particular have
been obsessing over distant worlds via their awesome HARPS spectograph
atop the frigid mountains of Chile. ESO? HARPS?

It was time for AMD to crack open the liquid -nitrogen and
liquid-helium again as it set a new world record by clocking its new FX
processor to a staggering 8.429Ghz.
The AMD Overclocking Team used a pre-release FX processor and
a tank of liquid-helium to push the
processor well over 8GHz (even with
the anti-virus enabled at one point), setting a new world record for a
modern processor frequency in the process to 8.429GHz, breaking the previous record of 8.309GHz.
Watch the video after the jump to see the AMD Overclocking Team in action.

When the World Trade Center was hit in the
9/11 attacks, NASA astronaut Frank Culpertson was able to snap a few
pictures from space.
These images were released some years back, but detail just how
visible the attacks were, even from space. They were taken by NASA
astronaut Frank Culbertson, who was onboard the International Space
Station when the World Trade Center was hit. He was the only American in
space on 9/11 and his experiences are detailed in a NASA blog post.
"I saw it out the window and we took video as the second tower was collapsing,” said Culpertson (via TG Daily).
"Didn’t know what was happening but I knew it was really bad because
there was a big cloud of debris covering Manhattan. That’s when it
really became painful because it was like seeing a wound in the side of
your country.”
For a high resolution view of the ima

First weld marks the start of construction on NASA's next manned spacecraft. NASA
has begun construction on the next manned ship to go into space,
beginning with the first weld on the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Module
that will carry astronauts aboard the spacecraft.
Work began on the spacecraft in New Orleans on Friday, September 9,
and will continue with the addition of heat shields at NASA’s Kennedy
Space Center.
The spacecraft is the first manned ship to be constructed since the
Space Shuttle Endeavor left the factory in 1991. If all goes as planned,
it will also be the first manned spacecraft created by NASA to go into
orbit since the Space Shuttle Atlantis, which landed earlier this year
and marked the final flight of the Space Shuttle program.
