Samsung and LG 55-inch OLED TVs delayed until 2013
If you have been saving your money and were looking forward to paying $10,000 for a 55″ OLED TV from Samsung or LG, we have some bad news.
Both companies will most likely not ship their televisions in 2012.
According to market researchers, it is hard to mass-produce those panels
with acceptable yields (meaning the ratio vs. good and defective
units). TV manufacturers are usually able to work the issues out, and the high price of the 55″ OLED TV sets takes this into account for the most part.
Basically,
both LG and Samsung have to reach yields that they are comfortable
with. It won’t happen in 2012 and it’s not clear when it would happen in
2013. We will have to wait and see.
